Best on screen kiss?

Posted in Question of the week by hayley247 on March 31, 2009

This weeks question is undoubtedly one of the hardest. With so many amazing love stories on screen, how can we possibly choose? But the question we are posing – given it’s a toughie, is who would you award with the best on screen kiss of all time? Whether it’s as obvious as Leo Dicaprio and Claire Danes in that lift scene in the 90’s remake of Romeo and Juliet or as obscure as Will Smith teaching Kevin James to smooch on a doorstep in Hitch, we want to know what you think! Here’s a few of our favourites:

The Notebook

The Notebook

* Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries, when she finally gets that ‘toe curling’ kiss

* Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in that rain scene from The Notebook ‘It wasn’t over…it still isn’t over!’

* Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days. The bathroom scene where they realise they have finally fallen for each other – cute!

* Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates – because we’re sure no one has had that many first kisses!

* Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in the snow (and in pants) in Bridget Jones Diary, after he forgives her for verbally bashing him in her diary

How to lose a guy in ten days

How to lose a guy in ten days

* Chad Michael Murray and Hilary Duff in a Cinderella Story – the rain scene

* Martine Mccutcheon and Hugh Grant in Love Actually – because we cracked up watching it when the stage curtain fell down!

So what about our winner? It has to go to Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in the ultimate rom com Pretty Woman. You spend the entire film watching the relationship between the pair blossom whilst never actually seeing them kiss. Remember when Vivienne admits that kissing on the lips is ‘too personal’? You get to see the duo in some raunchy on screen shots but it’s never romantic – that is until the kiss.

Pretty Woman

Pretty Woman

It comes after Vivienne and Edward spend the afternoon together playing happy couples and they both realise they have fallen for each other. Whilst Edward lays on the bed asleep, Vivienne pecks his cheek tenderly before planting a big kiss on his lips, when Edward wakes up…if you haven’t seen it (where have you been?) then we’re sure you can guess what happens next. The fact that the film starts off as Edward supposedly trying to save Vivienne, and ends with her actually saving him, adds to the overall amazingness of the flick. And it’s for that reason Pretty Woman is our winner for best on screen kiss of all time!

Who would you rather date, Mclovin or Jim?

Jim going for the glue

Jim going for the glue

Two ultimate movie geeks, one BIG question. Who would you rather date – Mclovin from Superbad or Jim from American Pie? We reckon both these guys would supply you with a barrel of laughs, a good date and maybe a red face at the end of the night (especially if Jim brings along his superglue and porno movie from American Pie 2) But one things for sure – you’d be adored non stop!

Let’s take Jim. We all know him best for his embarassing dance infront of the ever so hot Nadia, his hook up with band geek Michelle and *that* glue incident. So yea, there are absolutely a few pointers to be wary of if you were to ever date a character like this. 1) Could you ever really show him off to your friends without constantly worrying he was going to blurt out ‘this one time…’ and 2) There’s every chance as Jim’s girlfriend you would be dragged into all sorts of mischief – especially by his friend Stiffler. But then again, we think Jason Biggs’ character is way too cute to turn down for a date. And judging by the way he worshipped Nadia and loved Michelle, he’s surely good boyfriend material?

Mclovin doing his thing

Mclovin doing his thing

Mclovin is one of those geeks who has a definite bad boy side. Although he’s seen in Superbad as acing his grades, he also befriends some crazy cops, gets into fights and beds a beauty. Surely the actions of a confident geek who would show you a good time? On the other hand, we don’t think having your fella parade his name as Mclovin and gawp at high school girls thongs is that attractive.

Tough call though – what do you guys think?

Who would you rather be cast as your dad?

De Niro in Meet The Parents

De Niro in Meet The Parents

OK random question of the week for all you lovely movie go-ers. Who would you rather play your dad in a movie about you? Robert De Niro or Anthony Hopkins?

This is a bit of a toughie because both of these on screen legends have so much to offer! On the one hand, Robert De Niro has an amazingly hilarious side – a particular favourite was seeing him dress up as a lady in the fantasy movie Stardust! Which would obviously mean he would be a fun loving dad (although maybe you wouldn’t want to introduce him to your friends dressed in a tutu) But on the other hand, could he live up to his on screen annoying character in Meet The Parents and totally freak you out? Although a funny guy to watch, the way Jack straps his future son in law to a lie detector and grills him on his intentions is a little weird! Overall, De Niro would probably play one of those cheeky dads who wanted to know all the goss about you! Anthony Hopkins could be a completely different dad character – his serious films like Meet Joe Black shows he could be a caring dad who has only your best interests at heart. His narration in christmas movie The Grinch obviously means he could read a wicked bedtime story. But flashbacks of his appearance in Silence Of The Lambs dressed in a muzzle could put you off completely.
